Element <pbs:benefit-type>

This is a complex type of element.

When used in a prescribing rule, determines the circumstances under which a prescriber may prescribe a medicine and the assessment required by a prescriber and DHS. When used in an increase, determines the rules for administering increases over the maximum prescribable or number of repeats.

Optionally:

Restrictions for the prescribing of the medicine. At least one restriction is required for restricted, streamlined and authority-required restriction levels. A restriction may include a more precise specification of the prescriber. Prescribing texts (notes and cautions) are included either directly in the prescribing rule or in the restriction. NB. when the benefit-type is used in an increase, these are "rules" that guide the authorisation of the increase rather than "restrictions". The history of changes to restrictions (and therefore also Streamlined Authority Codes) are retained for 12 months.

pbs:effective

The date when this benefit-type became effective.

Optionally:

The date when this benefit-type became non-effective.
